Information and Guidelines
This scholarship programme is tailored for international students aspiring to undertake higher education in Slovakia for the academic year 2023/2024. Applicants are allowed to opt for any public or private higher education institution and any full-time study programme. Scholarship Benefits
Tuition Fee
Scholarship recipients will have their tuition fees waived as per Section 92, Para 11 of Act No. 131/2002 Coll. on Higher Education.
Health Insurance
As per Act No. 580/2004 Coll. on Health Insurance in the Slovak Republic, international scholarship recipients who do not possess a permanent residence in Slovakia, but are not insured in another EU member state or a contracting state of the European Economic Area Agreement or in the Swiss Confederation, will have public health insurance. Scholarship Slots
There are up to 300 available scholarships. Applicants will be categorized into five groups based on their geographical location:
- Europe
- USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Oceania
- South America
- Central America and Africa
- Asia
You can find a full list of countries for each category here. Each category will have 30 slots, for a total of 150 slots. The remaining 150 slots will be filled without regard to category, ensuring a diverse group of successful applicants.
Scholarship Amount
Successful applicants will receive a scholarship of up to €12,000. This will be distributed monthly over the first three academic years of the bachelor’s or joint bachelor’s and master’s degree study programme, with a monthly payment of €400. The scholarship covers ten months each year, from September to June.
Requirments
Eligibility Criteria
Before applying, ensure you meet the following eligibility criteria:
- Non-Slovakian citizenship
- No permanent or temporary residence in Slovakia since January 1st, 2018
- No prior study at a high school or higher education institution in Slovakia (excluding academic mobilities)
- Completed secondary education
- Admission to a Slovak higher education institution for a bachelor’s degree programme or joint bachelor’s and master’s degree programme
- Enrolment in the first year of a full-time, in-person study programme starting in the autumn of 2023
- No specific language requirements for the programme of study
- No upper age limit (applicants under 18 will need signed approval from their legal guardian)
Selection Criteria
Applicants will be evaluated based on their Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) scores. A minimum SAT score of 1050 is required to be considered for the scholarship. Only SAT scores will be considered in the selection process. SAT tests taken from January 1st, 2018 to June 30th, 2023 will be accepted.
About the SAT Test
The SAT test is a globally recognized standardized test that measures students' knowledge of math, reading, and writing, as well as their readiness for college. The test comprises three sections: the Reading Test, the Writing and Language Test, and the Math Test. More information can be found on the official website.
How to Apply
The application form has not been released yet. At this time, interested applicants can fill out the registration form at the bottom of this page. This is not a binding application to the scholarship programme. We will use the provided email address to notify applicants about the next steps in the application process.
Application Deadline
The application deadline will be announced on the website and sent to the registered email addresses. A complete application must include all necessary attachments, such as passport or ID (for applicants from EU countries, EEA countries, and Switzerland), SAT test results, and personal declarations. Verification will be carried out by the Ministry or by the higher education institution to which the applicant has applied and enrolled.
Note: To become a scholarship holder, the applicant must be officially enrolled in the first year of a study programme starting in the autumn of 2023.
